What do you guys think about our current group dispositions? This thread is here to give you all a chance to air your views as far as the society structure is concerned.
Is the group just the correct size? should we recruit more members? is just mainly portraying one unit your cup of tea or should we have the option of different Regiments as our main theme?
Whaddyafink? Feedback is key to the success of our society - please please air your views on anything with reference to the structure of our little band.
Now we are 'on our own' we have unlimited options open to us for the future.
Nobby.

On a personal note (the above post was written with my impartial hat on) I think that our current idea of one main theme with each individual having the option to work on their own interests too is a marvelous mixture, although I wouldn't mind giving the Northamptons a go a bit more often. As for recruitment of new members........................

If we're all Polar Bears and Infantry we should still look like a section/s. It's just when people start pretending to be something special i.e. para's, Which is Ok if they've jumped out a plane and can run 10 miles, But I don't think it would fit in with what I think the Group is about. Well for me my grandad was a Leicester so I'm a Leicester and if I'd been called up to fight, I'd be in the Infantry.

As a Leicester Lad my passion is to the Tigers, but just a reminder on what this society is about...
"basically Its all about the forgotten ordinary blokes who history has overlooked, we're promoting the importance of the average Tommy, not many people know him, he's the bloke who actually won the war !"
Infantry came from all walks of life, butchers, bakers and err probably candlestick makers.... they did there bit & then they went home, no fuss, no heroes, no complaints, just got on with life they way they left it.....
[glow=red,2,300]this attitude impresses the hell out of me, i'm proud to portray the infantry and prouder to be a Tiger.[/glow]

I'm a tiger through and through. I've got no connections with the county but that don't matter to me. As long as i've got me 37, battledress, bowler, hobnails and smle (+ a bit of beer) i'm happy. UP THE INFANTRY!!!
As for the size of the group, i'd hate to lose the 'cozy, close-knit' feel that we have at present. I wouldn't like to see the group grow too large. I think we still need new recruits but maybe it would be an idea to keep an eye on the numbers. It mustn't get unmanageable - standards might start to slip.
Anyway that's my two pennies worth.

i went to the records office today in wigston to see the display on the tigers in the crimean war, im happy portaying the leicesters simply because im learning more and more of the local history.
perhaps new recruits could be the northants if we get too big but not too big i agree with what olly says above.
within the group diversity is a good idea i will continue the medic theme with more and more kit infront of my bivvy, perhaps some of the group could look at taking on more unusal roles within the group that we have forgotten about messenger, runner, sniper ( did we have any ) lets just portray the normal chap in life, no need for glory boys we are all just doing a job remember.
Lets look at getting max sorted with what would go with the bren for a nice display next year, thats another tent covered.
ooh just remebered are we big enough for a mortar team that would look good in battle and look great in front of a tent
thats me for now Monty

Bein' a Nottingham lad born an' bred, i am still glad i joined the Leicestershire lads. I have nothing against anyone wanting to represent another regt . As to the size of the group, can we really turn people away ?? And do we want to do that , mmmmmm don't know ? The only alternative is to take a section each ? That would take some pressure from Whizz an' Guv. Just looking at options. Cuz personally i love it the way we are, but. What if we get a surge of recruits? Infantry rock!!! gentlemen.

Looking back towards the late 80's and early 90's when I was with the Royal Anglian 7th Bn, it was made up of Northants, Leics & Loughboro Coys with the HQ at Ulverscroft Road. So you could say I was a Tiger too in a way! Grrrr, now where's my bowl of Frosties.........
Chris' original idea with regards to the Northants 2 years ago was to have an interest in 2 fronts, Normandy and "the D-Day Dodgers", with the main thrust towards Leicestershire in the 49th Div. It works for me!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE IT.
A good idea by Monty about a 2" mortar team, especialy with his new toys & flash-bangs. Imagine the lads charging the hun through a smokescreen ...sweet.
This will give us some talking material at Redditch. Bring it on - up the TOMMIES.

Society growth is a tricky question, we've a strong 20 members now with a core dozen or so attending every event. Its hard to balance the camaraderie of a small bunch with the potential of what WE could achieve, this far i dont see a problem as we've welcomed Pesolo, Pikey & Tommy without a ripple. Sparky settled in within his 1st hour as did Olly. I think any group that has suffered from this problem has been down to their own failings, a conversation with Monty reminded me of how perspective members view the situ, a year to decide then kicked himself because he didn't do it sooner.
Maybe we've been lucky, maybe none of us have ego's or aspirations to 'take over'.....it is and always will be about having fun..... i'll end with a quote the older guys will have heard me say time and time again, "the day it stops being is the day i stop doing".

Well said, i like tha Camaraderie. When i first joined it was nice having people you felt you could talk to and who werent ordering you about all the time. With regards to what was said about more diversity, i would be haapy to help out as either runner or messenger etc. whatever there is a need for. I think a second front mite be a good possibility, but its nice going into battle as one unit. Long Live The Tigers!!!!!!!!

It's interesting to see what people think about this subject.
On a personal level, firstly I think we have a great group. The events where someone has been missing have not been as good. Thats how close knit I think we are. With regards to new recruits I think we will never be in a position to refuse people, If we have a big influx of newbies then we may have to rethink how the group operates, but put yourself in the position of someone who has been told that were not interested in new bod's.
With regards to what the group portrays, I'm happy to stick with the Leicesters for public events etc. During the evening though I'll be wearing my other BD badged up to represent the Royal Wark's. The reason why I want to stick with the Tigers is, other re-enactors and the public know us as the leicesters. Although I do like the idea of having the Northamptonshires representing the D-Day dodgers, as I think the lads who fought through Italy get less coverage that the ordinary tom of NW europe,

Whizz, with regard to what you said at husbos about getting our other halves to do the old home front. Do you still want people to do that? cus my girlfriend said she would quite like to do ARP warden or nurse or something. Just a thought if you are still interested
