EVENTS & PRIORITIES
What's your individual take on our calendar of events?
A couple of questions that will help us in the future to schedule events to suit your tastes.
A) What is your favourite type of event ? i) Private training 'Tom's only' events ii) Private training with other groups iii) Railway 'family' events iv) Public shows v) Museums / Veterans days vi) The lot - can't get enough
B) How much lead time do you need to be able to get time off from work - or permission from 'er indoors?
C) How many events per year do you think would suit you as a individual.
D) Any other comments (keep it clean Dom & Dan!)

Love all of the things we do but my 3 real faves are
1) Private training (real living history stuff) 2) Railway type events (GCR etc) 3) Public shows.
Obviously with the travelling i have to be relatively selective. It's difficult to put a number on it, i suppose it's how many i can get away with (like most of us!!)
Must say, i hate to miss anything, especially when we are turning out en-mass. You feel like you are really missing out!!

Hi guys, Although I haven't yet experianced the joys of any events, I can only say what I am in it for, which is the works! Blats, and private events that you can lose yourself in......so much better than sitting behind a computer screen and less imagination than reading a book..........and safer than standing around in Basra with an SA80. The private training is great, i'm glad to be starting out at HBIII rather than a battle or public display.......more comfort being around friends, amd at the risk of sounding too New age.. Great for group bonding.... Training with other groups I should imagine is a less pressure situation. Public & Railway 'Family' events, been to a one in North Yorks about 1996, Goathland (Where they filmed Heatbeat).. It was a great to watch, and probably pukka to be part of. I think educating the public with living history is a great part of this hobby, LEST WE FORGET and all that! Museums...... IWM, I used to go to all the airshows at Duxford, until in 1996 a P38 Lightning fighter clipped a wing on the ground while on a low-level fly-past. and hit a row of parked aircraft the I'll never forget that fireball......It was pretty horrific. But still I goto Duxford and can spend hours looking around the static displays and old aircarft. I want to get to the tigers museum soon. I am a great fan of meeting Veterans, and feel privilaged to live in an age where it is still possible. As an associate member of RAFA I have met a few WW2 vets.....always a pleasure! As regards lead time for events, I find the longer notice the better..... a few months is good, One month is managable, A few weeks becomes a problem ('er indoors) I will try to attend as many events as possible, The more events planned during the year the harder they become to fit in both time and cash wise......I could probably comment better on this after my first full year. It must be hard to find the right balance of events, I have much admiration for the organisers in this society....... The balance seems good for this year, and reading previous threads last year sounded good also. As for other comments, keep up the great work!, I am having a blast already.......just through banter on the forum and collecting and maintaining my kit, and with no events under my belt things can only get better!

For me personally, the more time i spend wearing my BD's the better, I'm up for any event, be it private training, private blats or public shows. They all rate highly with me ;D.
Time wise I only need a week normally, if I need to put leave in.
As for the number of shows a year, I like to fit in the odd airshow and the meets down at Goodwood, but apartfrom that the more the better.
