Ello All, As the title says, all help much appreciated. I have worked miracles on getting all my kit, but you can't buy experiance...... Having never attended a reenactment event before... private battles and suchlike... so if anyone could share their experiance on what to expect at the events and what to take to events it would be very much appreciated......... any links or info no matter how small. Cheers in advance! Eddie (The new tommy

G'day mate,
I guess we could all throw you pearls of wisdom, with such lines as.... "Take it easy and slow to begin with" or "Just get the basics to start off" or "Turn up to a couple of events and see how you get on"
But we all know you aint gonna do that!! Like the rest of us, you want to turn up at your first event lookin SPOT ON, looking the full MONTY with the MAX amount of gear eh?? (Ever wondered where Monty and Max got there nicknames from??)
So....
Public events - take as little non period kit as possible, if you do bring any modern stuff - keep it in a large pack or similar type WW2 kitbag - nothing worse than a photographer getting off a snapshot including a 'pot noodle' tub and a 'nike' bag full of 'pepsi'!!
Private events - stay comfortable, warm and dry. British weather is never our greatest ally - so keep that groundsheet handy mate!! Just relax and enjoy yourself - don't get disenhartened when you loose off a mag at an enemy trooper and they appear to be wearing a kevlar bodysuit!!
As with any hobby, experience is the greatest teacher - one thing I can guarantee - we all learn from each other at EVERY event. We all have our own particular interests, so I can suggest, we will learn as much from a newcomer as (s)he learns from us.
Collecting all of your re-enacting kit is like building an Airfix kit - the fun is in watching it grow bit-by-bit (no crude jokes Dom!) and searching for that elusive war dated knife to go with your cutlery set.
You will have a grand time Eddie - you will not be surrounded by blokes who will say... "that's not right......" or "sorry chum, you need X Y Z ..." but, with a group of like-minded mates who enjoy nothing more than a cup of 'army' tea sitting around a camp fire chatting about WW2 BritKit.
I'm sure you will have a blast mate.
Only one pearl of wisdom left........ Never give Dan any booze, f*gs ammo or food..................

everything Vaughan saya above is true matey, we're all here to help (minus Dan of course). Now, turn you attention to the finer things, such as who's who: Chris - ask this bloke for any Leicester info at all. Guv - ask this bloke for kit and where the nearest boozer is. Dan(Gordon) - ask this bloke to go away, he'll be scrounging f*gs, food, booze, your women, weapons, etc. Bri - ask this guy home front stuff. Tiny - Dont mention the RAF... Stu - Ask this man to drive for you sometime, its an experience... Oll - Ask to see his weapon...hehehe. Max - Works wonders with a Bren...and a campfire.
Never, ever, get to an event and decide to set up AFTER going to the pub, eh Vaughan? Never put your boots on the campfire And...the diamond piece of advice for any newbie is...
HAVE A LAUGH!! ENJOY YOURSELF!!
Not suggesting that coupious amounts of alcohol must be drank, but it gives me and Gordon "fresh meat". Muwhahahahahahaha!!!

Dom, you remind me of that line in "The Life Of Brian"..
Cleese........ "What's it about you and Women Stan?".
Perhaps your version should be ..... "What's it about you and booze Dom?"...
Ev'ry post you put on the forum has to have a booze remark in it somewhere. I guess that's Student life for you nowerdays eh?
For the rest of you out there - you do NOT need to be a boozer to join the Tom's. Ask Max and the Sarge who are both tee-total (Lambrini doesn't count Bob).
And to reply to Dom's comment - there's nothing wrong with putin' your bivvi up inside out at 03:30hs eh Stu?
