Hello all , Just a quick post to introduce myself, My name is Eddie and I am in the process of joining up with the society tio get my first taste of living history re-enactment, thanks to 'guv' and Chris for making me feel so welcome on my application. I am 23 and live in North Hertfordshire, I have had an active interest in WW2 since I can remember....Recently I have started setting up a small business trading in WW2 Militaria and Memrobelia (Mainly Home Front).... a part of the business is the restoration and refurbishment of Mk.II tommy helmets for re-enactment / display purposes. After a bit of scouting around for re-enactment groups I spotted the tommy atkins society whichlooked great and made me decide to give it a shot... and also an excuse to buy myself a 1940 patt BD, which the missus would never have let me invest in otherwise, Cant wait to send my subs in so I can be a fully paid up member! Best wishes, till we meet on the field! Eddie

Hi W_B My Grandad was a 'sarge' with the Royal Artillery during WW2, I do know he had friends in the Leicesters and some of the friendships continued long after the war, unfortunately he passed on in 1992 so I can't find out more... although I do know he held the regiment in high regard. Regards Eddie

I too am a big fan of the Military Bowlers, infact it's quite hard to sell them on once they have been restored. I managed to pick up a nice little bargain in Germany recently when I found a Mk.III tommy in mint condition going for £5, it was marked up as a post war American M1. Lovely! Regards Eddie

Eddie, Some of us attended a Tigers evening a month or so back (the society works heavilly with Veterans associations particually the Royal Tigers Assoc.) & there was a few Italy veterans present..... Might be worth you coming along to the next one to see if there's a family connection. You'd be surprised at the memories some of these chaps have even after 60 + years, I have the personal effects of a 1bn Sargeant killed in Burma (photo's, letters, etc) took them to a regimental dinner and 2 guys recognised him straight away.... well impressive.
