Well helo, Jamie hear. Closest I ever felt was the first time I had my own platoon to play with. I had recce patrols out all night watching our LOD for the next mornings advance to contact. Set out in the morning with platoon HQ and a single section-BALLS!-found them on the way. Anyway there we were lying behind this bundline H-hour ticking closer and closer. Had my 'last' cigarette broke through the ice in the top of my waterbottle had a drink shared a joke with my runner then, BOOM BOOM etc etc. Dems simulating mortar fire for couple mins. stops dead on H-hour then the platoons up and advancing, as we cross over the bundline which felt like climbing out of a trench the pipe major stikes up with the regimental march-Cock of the North-felt like the Somme 1916 and not Aldershot 2003 and my folks dont understand why i'm joining the Highlanders

Could've been, but if you remember the 'clicking' he did (to simulate the noisy cricket) then he would've emptied a fair few

I agree with guv, the best moments are when you can step back look around and almost...just maybe imagine yourself there. Quiet moments like walking toward a sentry post seeing people chatting. A top example was a pub in (totty pub) brum. Wasnt much inparticular but coming back from the kazzi seeing guv Jimbo and hank sat round the table in this ole spit n sawdust pub with the dartboard in the background really did look like the night before the main event in middle england.
Montys first blat in bristol was pretty good, stuck in that bunker with potato mashers flying left right and centre, where I lept over a wall to avoid one(and left chris guv and jimbo totake it in the face.....sorry again)
ps hello Monty, hows the glowing car?
