The De lisle carbine was developed in 1942 for British commandos, it used a modified bolt action from a SMLE, joined to a completely silenced barrel, firing .45 ACP sub-sonic round from a 7 to 10 round magazine. The subsonic round meant there was no crack as the bullet passed through the air, all you would hear is a click from the firing pin and a thud as the .45 round hit the target. It was accurate to 400m but only 100m if you wanted a good headshot. Original models were made by Stirling Armaments Company, it weight 3.74kg, length 889mm. In 1944 along came the silenced Sten, a lot less effective weapon, not as quiet, not as accurate, not as reliable, but a automatic. But given the test of time the De lisle was still in use by the SAS although slightly modifed in the late 80's
