Not just for new members, but old hands as well. Weapons Safety.
TOMMY ATKINS HISTORICAL SOCIETY
Weapons Safety Precautions
The 3 Golden rules are as follows :-
1) Always treat every firearm as if it is loaded with live ammunition. 2) Refer to Rule # 1 3) Still refer Rule # 1
Unit procedures with respect of weapons handling at all times are as follows:-
a) NEVER leave your personal weapon anywhere, either take it with you or hand it over to another member of the section.
b) When passing a weapon to a fellow section member, show that the weapon is clear and safe. Repeat the procedure when collecting, even with a de-act – practice – practice – practice.
This will not only look professional to members of the general public, but will instil automatic safety precautions as standard. To be fair it only takes a second or two, but makes one helluva difference.
If we do this with our own de-acts and blank firers, it will be second nature when collecting and using live firing weapons events.

Couldn't agree more Guv. We need to be really hot with both deacts and FAC weapons, as the public in this country can be very paranoid around weapons.

I've had a word with Dave, who is using a Bren at the weekend, if we can all use it for a group training session for 5 mins before the blat on Saturday morning. (CHEERS DAVE) We as a group go through safety procedures before EVERY event as a matter of course, but I think there are some of you newer guys who haven't been introduced to the marvel of engineering that is the Bren Gun. It can't help to be made aware of the workings of any firearm that we may come into contact with even if you are an expert in your own personal weapon. Guv.
