A real Pearl of my familly history popped up recently. A book called "Across the western ocean" By Francis G Tyson MBE who belive it or not is my nans uncle! The book was plublished from a journal of his found after his death in 2001. Its a really great tale about his trips with the merchant navy in the 30's from the med to the americas and the west indies. It also turns out that during the war he was involved with the plan of a fake harbour on D day to distract the axis forces!. I $hit you not!. Youve got to see it to belive it so I might bring it to berlin with me. ;D ;D

Sorry if I'm telling you how to suck eggs, but when your reading a book and you find something interesting, just stick a piece of strap paper in to mark the page, helps finding it easier than re reading the whole book.

If anyone out there has an interest in the SAS during the war I suggest you get your hands on a copy of Fire from the forest. it details the SAS brigades actions in France 1944. Written by Roger Ford it provides an indepth account of the operations undertaken by the SAS after D-Day. well worth a read ;D

Just finished reading " with the jocks" by Peter White ISBN 0-7509-3057-8, This was one Guv recommended on the last forum. It's a long read at 540 pages but it's the best I've read so far. It's writen from a diary and notes made at the time so theres lots of little detailes you don't often get.

Got this as a stocking filler, doesn't take long to read. "instructions for American servicemen in Britain 1942" ISBN 1-85124-085-3, It's a re-print of the book issued to them then, gives some insight to war time Britain, more for poeple interested in the Home Front.

Have just bought the British Soldier from D Day to VE day (one of the Jean Bouchery books Guv mentions at the top of this thread) I'm sure loads of you guys already own it but to any of the new guys, get it, it really does tell you everything you need to know about equipment and uniforms. Mainly photos and illustrations. Very practical!!

Will buy it mate. I don't know why I love British tanks so much!! Probably because they were the underdogs most of the time.
My fave 3 are
1) Matilda (QOD) 2) Cromwell 3) Churchill
