This is just a rough recollection of how they aquired the name. During the battle for Normandy, some lads from the 49th Div (sorry I can't remember the particular regt) took out several Panthers with PIATs. As the crews bailed out and tried to surrender they were gunned down. After this incident any tommy caught with a 49th Div patch on his arm was to be shot. In my opinion it seems a bit unsporting, but every nation committed these crimes, but the victors always write the history books. In fact 17 enemy tanks.... in 1 day I'm sure there's artistic license involved re machine gunning the crew, however it made good propaganda, James Joyce (Lord Haw Haw) used the episode to great effect.

Definately a "fireside" topic gentlemen.
So, so far for discussion at HB3 we have=
Printed or embroidered insignia The best way to make a cuppa What types of nuts we prefer War Crimes (Dan's scrounging ability fits into this category methinks!) And lastly, Why we ALL hate Arsenal and Chelsea !

yes lets all moan about SOF and their ropey badges. buggers sent me tombstone comb ops patches as in their own words "these are the badges the Royal Marines wore because they were part of the Navy." I've yet to find any evidence to this effect....anywhere....ever. but there you go. even though I specified round ones...because I know best. Half wits to a man
Andyes it was william Joyce, James joyce had an eyepatch and wrote ullyses........which is a tad dull......almost a warcrime I would say.

Personally I've never really had a problem with S of F but I have heard some stories that have sent a chill down my spine. Especially when you think their there to provide a service.
Personally I think best to wait until the shows if you can and 'try before you buy'.

Ahhh...... Their infamous helmet nets, shocking aren't they! I have had some nice stuff off of them, but I only seem to get that by spending a shed load of money......... They pick the best gear from stores if you put in a large order. I have learnt never to buy one of their used Tommy helmets, I bought one just to see the quality of them..... not good....Mine looked as though it had been involved in Atomic bomb testing or run over by a Sherman. I wouldn't bother buying their (unissued) Anti-Gas eyesheilds, the packing looks mint, the contents disintergrates into a fine powder. 2 male cross straps, I'm just waiting for them to come out of the closet ;D 2 L straps, one chest strap 2 inches larger than other. 1944airbourne.com Advertisements everywhere.....rip them out, too bad if they stamp them on your braces and G.S. cap with black paint Catalogues £2 each and don't remember ordering them..... Anyway, as Tiny says always best to try before you buy..... But it is possible to find good internet dealers, Axis re-enactors have Richard Underwood..... I rate WPG in the states never had a problem with Jerry......
