So your a bit sore after digging your trench ?? not much kip and a chilly night ? try doing it under the threat of enemy snipers, artillery or armour. Periods on stag and when you finally do get some shut eye your pulled to stand too every 5 mins by a nervous replacement... cold food and unclean water to boot and the fear of sticking your head above the parapet would get you back to Blighty one way or another. AND THEN KEEP DOING IT FOR THE NEXT MONTH !!!

During World War II, sugar was sent overseas for U.S. troops, which meant there wasn't much sugar left in the States to produce candy. Because of this unusual situation, Americans ate three times as much popcorn as usual

The Germans considered Casablanca (1943) a propaganda film and made it illegal to show in German theaters during World War II. Even after the war, only a censored version was allowed to be shown in Germany; all references to Nazis were removed.

Two out of three of the bombs used in the first air raids on Warsaw did not explode. On examination they were found to contain, instead of high explosive, slips of paper bearing the words,
"We are with you in spirit" and signed "Workers of the Skoda Arms Factory, Czecho-Slovakia"

During WW2 the USA came up with "Project X-ray" the plan was to strap tiny napalm charges to thousands of bats and release them over japan. The plan was abandoned after the bats escaped and destroyed a aircraft hanger and a Generals car in New Mexico.
