Guv's knackered kettle has got me thinking. I am the best tea maker in the Galaxy (Official that is). I can make beautiful tea out of most brands except no frills economy catering packs. My tea of choice is Yorkshire Tea Hard Water blend. How to make great tea (excluding tea powder mixes) 1) Boil kettle (or pans Guv!) 2) Select a fave cup (mine is one with AS Roma on it) 3) Place Yorkshire tea bag in cup 4) Pour boiling water slowly into cup leaving about an inch at the top 5) Immediately begin to manipulate the bag in the cup using spoon 6) Under no circumstances leave the bag unattended as this may lead to stewing (Urgghh) 7) After about 3-4 mins of this give the bag a firm squeeze and remove 8) Add milk 9) Add sugar if desired (no more than 2 though) 1 being the ideal amount 10) Stir vigorously in both directions and until you get a couple of bubbles on the surface. 11) Enjoy your tea. ;D

A man after my own heart, a tea drinker of distinction, I don't have sugar in tea, does the water up there in the North have a strange taste, have you tried those Limited Edition tea bags by Pg.
Now back in the days when tea bags were not invented, you had to put one teaspoon per person and one for the pot, but warm the teapot up first, then pour on boiling water and stir, let it stand for 5 minutes then pour through a tea strainer and add milk not to much, Ahhh.
Just athought can you get 1940's tea packets anywhere.

The finest thing known to humanity - it's just what made the Empire great. (Boston tea party - my *rse!)
Did you know that due to traditions of the Redcoat during the penninsular war - tea leaves (not bags) are allowed to be stored in ammunition pouches of any Regiment that can trace it's history back to that great campaign. The logic behind it is thus - a soldier would NEVER be without his weapon or ammunition - ergo never without a cuppa either!! They had their heads screwed on back in the 1800's, when Men were Men and Women were rather naughty.
To quote everybody's favourite schoolteacher of history - "I LOVE THIS HOBBY".

In reply to Ian, we have really hard water in Hull (just like the people). I can make tea with leaves as well as me mam refused to buy tea bags for years. Tea leaves are the greatest but a bit of a pain to make.

Along with drawstring teabags pyramid teabags are simply a gimmick! In my experience they add nothing to the quality of the tea. It's all in the blend.

Earl Grey, too good for us other ranks?? Officers only?
My personal favourite is a Twinings blend called "English Breakfsat Tea"
Jolly good show what!
We need some N.S.P.'s & T.O.E.T.S. for making of the tea.
I can imagine it now............"No.1s behind your messtin, No.2s ready with the teabags."
